* First state: Investigating only what can be seen by the naked eye and without moving any object at the scene. Taking photographs and measurements in normal lighting.
* Second stage: Opening closets and drawers may be opened, and furniture is searched underneath.
* Third stage: Contents of drawers are searched and collected. All pockets of all clothing are searched. Most chemicals are used. Most dusting for fingerprints is done. Mattresses may be overturned, and ditry laundry might be searched.
